Subtitling

Translation for subtitling has many specific requirements: the text must fit on the screen, but it must also fit within a certain reading time. The language is a bit more formal than in dubbing, but it is becoming increasingly closer to colloquial speech. It is said that good subtitles should “disappear” on the screen—in other words, the viewer should almost forget that they are reading a translated text.
